Arnold Schwarzenegger confirms he will appear in 'Terminator 5'

He says the script is being written now and the film should go into pre-production this year (2013)

            Arnold Schwarzenegger has apparently confirmed that he will appear in Terminator 5.

During a press junket in London yesterday (January 22), which was attended by Empire, the actor mentioned the sequel in a list of his upcoming projects. Schwarzenegger is in the UK to promote his new movie The Last Stand, which opens tomorrow (January 24).

Later that day, in a video webchat with The Sun, Schwarzenegger gave an update on the sequel's progress. He explained: "They're writing right now Terminator 5. There have been some writers on it for the last year-and-a-half and they could not pull it off. We have told them over and over that they are going in the wrong direction, now they've finally got rid of those writers and they've got new really quality writers. Now they're going in the right direction."

Speculating about the project's time frame, Schwarzenegger added: "I think this year the script will be finished and we will be able to go into pre-production."

Earlier this month (January 2013), it was revealed that Avatar executive producer Laeta Kalogridis has been hired to co-write the new Terminator movie with Patrick Lussier, writer-director of Drive Angry and Dracula 2000. The project is being steered by Zero Dark Thirty producer Megan Ellison, who owns the rights to the Terminator franchise, and her brother David, CEO of Skydance Productions, makers of Star Trek Into Darkness and Jack Reacher.

Schwarzenegger played the cyborg assassin in three films released between 1984 and 2003, but sat out the last instalment, 2009's Terminator Salvation, which starred Christian Bale and Sam Worthington.
