The director of “Death Wish,” Michael Winner, passed away in London at 77 years old.
The filmmaker-turned-restaurant critic announced in the Times last October that he had been given 18 months to 2 years to live by liver specialists and even wrote of weighing assisted suicide as option, but was turned off by the “bureaucracy.” According to his website, the director, who was born in London and whose career spanned more than 40 years, is expected to leave his 46 room Victorian to his native country to be converted into a museum.
In one of his last messages on Twitter on Oct. 26, he tweeted “other than being in intensive care, hospital, an asylum, and generally ill i’m having a great time, it should happen to you.”
